The People Forum of India – National Bharat Sevak Samaj (NBSS) stands among the oldest and most respected voluntary organisations in the country, tracing its roots to 1952, when India was still shaping its identity as a young republic. Established under the aegis of the Planning Commission of India, now known as NITI Aayog, and endorsed by Parliament, the Forum was born out of the vision of national leaders like Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru and Gulzarilal Nanda, who believed that true democracy could not thrive without public participation in development. It emerged as a non-political movement for social reconstruction — a platform where citizens could collectively dedicate their time, skills, and resources to national progress.

Over the decades, the People Forum of India has been a living example of participatory nation-building. Its initiatives have touched every sphere of community life — education, health, economic empowerment, rural upliftment, and social awareness. From village literacy drives to training programs for youth and women, from campaigns for public health to the promotion of cooperative entrepreneurship, the Forum has consistently served as a bridge between government programs and grassroots realities. It represents the enduring idea that progress must be inclusive and that service to society is the truest form of patriotism.

In recent years, the organization has experienced a remarkable resurgence under the dynamic leadership of Dr. Bhargav Mallappa, who serves as the National Deputy Chairman and In-Charge of Headquarters Administration of the People Forum of India – National Bharat Sevak Samaj. A devout Hindu and a seasoned professional with extraordinary organizational and oratory skills, Dr. Mallappa has infused new energy and direction into the Forum’s activities. His leadership has been instrumental in modernizing the institution’s operations while preserving its original spirit of voluntary service.

With a deep understanding of both social and administrative dynamics, Dr. Mallappa has restructured the Forum’s working systems to make them more transparent, responsive, and outcome-oriented. He has been a driving force behind the revival of the Forum’s outreach programs, focusing on education, skill development, and public welfare, ensuring that every initiative aligns with India’s contemporary developmental vision. His commitment to empowering the marginalized, creating educational opportunities, and promoting civic responsibility reflects the essence of service envisioned by the Forum’s founders. Under his stewardship, the People Forum of India has strengthened its presence across states, inspiring thousands of volunteers and reaffirming its role as a national institution of public trust and moral leadership.

Complementing this renewed spirit of service is the inspiring vision of President Droupadi Murmu, whose message of inclusive development and moral integrity echoes the founding ideals of the Forum. President Murmu has consistently emphasized that the true measure of a nation’s progress lies in its ability to uplift its most vulnerable citizens through education, empowerment, and empathy. Her belief that “no society can claim greatness unless its weakest are educated and empowered” mirrors the People Forum of India’s long-standing mission.

In her addresses to the nation, President Murmu has called for a development model that combines compassion with innovation — a model that empowers through learning and builds strength through equality. Her vision of Viksit Bharat (Developed India) rests on the pillars of Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas, Sabka Prayas — togetherness, trust, and collective effort — ideals that perfectly resonate with the Forum’s enduring motto of “Service Before Self.” The President’s call for education-driven transformation, particularly for women, tribal communities, and youth, aligns with the Forum’s initiatives that blend traditional values with modern knowledge systems to create an India that is self-reliant, inclusive, and forward-looking.

As the People Forum of India – National Bharat Sevak Samaj celebrates its seventy-third foundation day, it stands at the intersection of legacy and modernity. Guided by the visionary leadership of Dr. Bhargav Mallappa, supported by the wisdom and strategic counsel of Dr. Rajkumar Sharma, the National Advisor of the Forum, and inspired by the compassionate vision of President Droupadi Murmu, the organization continues its mission of nation-building through service, education, and empowerment. Together, their collective leadership reinforces the belief that India’s greatest strength lies not merely in its institutions or policies but in the moral conviction of its people — united in purpose, devoted to service, and determined to build a just, educated, and enlightened nation.
